What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
Difficult question. If I would have grown up in the 1980s I probably would have said The Smiths. I like the light melodies but the sad lyrics. A few years ago I saw the Icelandic band Sigur Rós live and they played with a whole orchestra. The song "Ekki múkk" triggered sooooo many feelings in me. I was crying the whole song. I rarely felt so alone, helpless and mortal during that concert.
How would you characterize your own music?
ANGER MGMT. are a few genres mixed together. We privately listen to black metal, heavy metal, emo, punk, classic rock and pop music and you can hear that in our songwriting. The songs are easily accessible but there are always unexpected surprises.
What are your musical aspirations?
I never thought about that. I hope that I will continue to develop and that I will always have the courage to try something new and learn from wrong decisions.
What are your main musical inspirations?
I grew up with blink 182, but with time that was too happy for me. I fell in love with 90s grunge music and for me The Smashing Pumpkins is and remains THE grunge band of the 90s, even though you can probably hear more Kurt Cobain in my voice than Billy Corgan. Today I'm much more open. Almost every style of music can inspire me, as long as the song touches me.
What are your main goals in life?
Since my childhood, I've had an anxiety disorder and depressive episodes. A few years ago, I was really struggling, and I'm doing everything in my power to never feel that way again. That's why I continue to wish for good health.
What motivates you to create?
Usually, after I've been to a concert or discovered a new band that I really like, I feel inspired to make music myself.
Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
It's Tuesday and 1am. I think that answers the question.
Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
The art of cooking.... everything tastes like shit what I cook. And I wish I could dance or at least had the courage to take a dance class. Every time I watch the movie Billy Elliot I feel like going out on the street and dancing away all my frustration and anger.
Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Alkaline Trio - Crimson.
What is the best decade for music?
1994 - 2004. Why? In my opinion, it was the last epoch in which music was "reinvented" and had a major impact. Today you can somehow hear everything and everything is recycled. I hope there will soon be another band that throws everything over the top like Nirvana did back then.
What do your future plans include?
They keep changing. The first goal was to write songs, after that the goal was to finally play live, which was difficult during covid 19. The next goal is to release our album on June 2nd, 2023 and hope that the vinyl will be with us in time and the rest we leave open :). But an EU tour would be nice.
