Video Premiere: Waiting by XOR

Darkenin Heart

XOR, the electronic project led by Matthew, bassist of Secret Shame, has made a comeback with the latest release, Waiting, an earnest ode to distance in relationships. The accompanying music video presents the artist making an effort at stop-motion animation, using playdough and construction paper to mirror the song's mood. Waiting contrasts upbeat rhythms and melancholic undertones, producing a dreamy yet danceable energy.

Matthew wrote the song for his partner while on tour with Secret Shame. The artist explains: "We’d gone from being around each other non-stop during lockdown to me being away on tour a large part of the year. It’s hard to navigate being on the road so much and having a life at home. No matter how often we call or text, it just isn’t the same as being around someone and sharing a life with them."

The video's creation was spontaneous, with XOR developing scenes based on the behavior of the materials rather than following a predetermined direction. Its concept was inspired by the sound of the song itself. "Something about the synth leads just sounded like clay digesting itself," Matthew elaborates.
