Ecce Homo by Gavin Friday

Darkenin Heart

Ecce Homo is the lead single and title track from Gavin Friday's first solo album in over a decade. The album is set to release on October 25th, 2024, via BMG. Produced by Dave Ball of Soft Cell and Michael Heffernan, it marks Friday’s return to music after his 2011 release, Catholic.

Gavin Friday is well-known as the frontman of the iconic Irish post punk band Virgin Prunes. The artist has carved out a diverse artistic career over the past four decades as a songwriter, composer, actor, and visual artist. Ecce Homo reflects his deeply personal exploration of identity and rebellion, challenging societal expectations while confronting the collective struggles individuals often face.

The album began with an unexpected email from Dave Ball, a collaborator from Virgin Prunes' early days. Initially, they teamed up to create a cover of Suicide's Ghost Rider for Alan Vega's 70th birthday. After years of remote collaboration, the two reunited in London for studio sessions, where they creates the bulk of the new project. The result is an emotionally varied album, blending anger, independence, and disillusionment, especially in its critique of religion, power, and social norms.

Speaking on the track, Friday says: “the track ‘Ecce Homo’ is my own personal kick in the head and kiss on the cheek to a world gone very wrong. Check out the brand-new video for title track ‘Ecce Homo’. Equally haunting and euphoric, the video has been produced entirely in AI by studio284 / Petros Tryfon.”
