Nowhere to Turn, the new single from In Covert, is a noisy, slow-burning piece built for nocturnal spirals and existential dread. Jagged guitars clash with industrial textures, brooding electronics simmer beneath the surface, and the vocals ache with emotional stillness.
Originally born as a solitary bedroom recording during the early days of the pandemic, guitarist and composer Wes Lopez poured his frustration and personal struggles into the song’s earliest form, captured raw to cassette tape. Over time, Nowhere to Turn evolved, taking on new life with the input of synth artist Miguel (Kontrol) before being completely reimagined in 2023.
With the help of producer Chris King (Cold Showers, Kai Tak), Lopez re-recorded the track from scratch, this time backed by a full band. Oscar Ruvalcaba brought new weight behind the drums, while Lopez laid down guitar, bass, and synths. To match the song’s emotional gravity, Kris Balocca was brought in on vocals, delivering a performance that cuts deep.
Heavy, vulnerable, and unrelenting, Nowhere to Turn stands shoulder to shoulder with the rest of In Covert’s powerful catalog, but develops its own unforgettable space.
