Corpus Delicti Fill The Darkenin Heart Questionnaire

Darkenin Heart

What do you consider to be the darkest piece of music you’ve ever heard?
Sebastien: Nick Cave's “Ghosteen”.

Franck: Faith or pornography - I can't choose.

Chrys: Oh, there are so many! I could mention “One Hundred Years” by The Cure, “Eve White Eve Black” by Siouxsie and the Banshees, or “Everything’s Gone Green” by New Order, among others.

How would you characterize your own music?
Chrys: Hard to define — is it gothic, is it post-punk, is it new wave, or is it simply rock?

Franck: Intensity / melodies / energy / dark & light / atmosphere.

Which are your musical aspirations?
Sebastien: First, to do myself some good — and maybe, to do some good for those who will listen.

What are your main musical inspirations?
Sebastien: Bowie, The Cure, Slowdive, Nick Cave.

Chrys: Paul Simonon for the style, Steve Severin for the imagination, JJ Burnel for the technique, and Peter Hook for the magic.

Franck: It goes from bands like The Cure, The Sound, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Chameleons, through Massive Attack, Boards of Canada, and Aphex Twin, to Viagra Boys, Trentemøller, and many others.

What are your main goals in life?
Sebastien: Find pleasure, make it easier with loved ones and friends.

Franck: Be free, happy, making music.

What motivates you to create?
Sebastien: It first helps me. Then, the pleasure of creating something with people you like and then share it with the audience, talk to people, feel their feedback.

Franck: It's natural, like a need.

Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?
Sebastien: Night, for sure. But I wake up too early.

Chrys: Mostly a late riser!!!

Franck: Night owl.

Besides music, what other art forms would you like to explore?
Chrys: Cooking is a delicious art!!!

Sebastien: Filming.

Franck: Painting or sculpture, I use to compare the process of the music creation to a paint.

Which is the very first record that had a big impact on you?
Sebastien: A-ha's “Hunting High and Low” (sorry Chrys.. :) )… I was a teenager at that time, 12 years old, and the first time I’ve heard “The sun always shines on TV”, I felt something I had never felt before. This brought me to more darker music and the other big impact was Echo And The Bunnymer with “Ocean Rain”.

Chrys: In retrospect, the one that impacted me the most is Juju by Siouxsie and the Banshees — it’s the perfect line-up, sublime compositions, a masterpiece!!

Franck: It was New Gold Dream / Simple Minds. What an album. What a production. Still in my top 3 of music production.

What is the best decade for music?
Chrys: Naturally, the ’80s saw a wave of incredible bands, but the ’50s were also crucial!

Franck: 1977-1987.

Sebastien: The ’80s, because for me, it’s intimately tied to my discovery of music and the incredible emotions it gave me.

What do your future plans include?
Sebastien: We’re releasing our new album in November; the previous one came out… 30 years ago. So it’s a big challenge for us, but we’re confident, because we’re very happy with the songs it contains. We wouldn’t have made just another album for the sake of it — it had to live up to our expectations. And it does. Can’t wait to share it.
