Black Metals by Ancient Channels

Darkenin Heart

On their new single release Black Metals, Ancient Channels take their post punk roots somewhere more engrossing and haunting. The band leans into an eighties-inspired framework, but stretches it outward with swirling, psychedelic textures that give the track a sense of depth and unease.

The song’s origin lies in a striking dream about a plane crash, an image that lingers in the music’s uneasy mood and almost surreal tone. Rather than presenting that idea directly, the band translates it into sound consisting of pulsing rhythms, washed-out guitars, and a steady build that feels tense and hypnotic.

The end result is a track that seems broad and enveloping, with a calm tension behind its dreamy surface.

Ancient Channels' upcoming sophomore record Static Spirit is due in 2026 through False Peak Records.
