Book of Astrology, the new offering by Eric Angelo Bessel, is a track that does not appear to begin or end so much as pass through the listener. Textures gather, melodies briefly reveal themselves and the entire piece moves with the slow inevitability of weather forming over an unseen landscape.
The second glimpse of Bessel’s Illusion of an Inland Ocean inhabits the uncertain territory between recollection and dreaming. Mellotrons, guitars and analogue processing create its soft focus environment, but beneath the longing that it creates, also lies a feeling that the music knows its direction even when it refuses to disclose a destination.
Composed during early mornings and refined late at night, the album extends the Portland-based artist’s investigation of memory, technology and the overlooked details that surface through repeated attention.
